MEET

You

I'm Hector Medina, the manager of the apartment block.

Reply

I'm Johanne Bessler, an inventor.

Trying to make our world a bit more convenient. I've already applied for 153 patents in the last 10 years!

You

How many of them did you get?

Reply

4 so far. But I'm only starting my journey to become the greatest inventor of our time!

DISCUSS WORK
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

What do you do for living?

Reply

Ever since I can remember, I'm always busy inventing and constructing. Take alarm clocks apart and assemble them back together, as my father used to say.

I applied for state funding. They choose one young inventor with potential, and pay for one of his projects.

The winner gets to go to the capital and work in the best construction labs.

I could never even dream of this!

You

I'm sure you'll succeed.

Reply

Alas, it's not up to me. All applicants are scrutinized.

There's several hundreds of them…

I heard they even review pedigree, to avoid a scandal, like they had three years ago.

You

What scandal?

Reply

They financed a guy, and he turned out to be a revolutionist. Came up with a propaganda speech when been live during the awards ceremony.

He managed to say a lot before he was tied up and carried away. Though I have no clue, what exactly he was saying, cause all the viewers had to sign the confidentiality agreement. They even did an exemplary execution.

Though, what really bothers me is that I'm running out of ideas. As if… me head refuses to work…

DISCUSS BRAIN POTION
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesIn your inventory: Killer DescartesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

I found a great potion for you, it's called 'Crazy Decart'.

Drink it in the morning, 3 drops per 15 gallons of water; that will bring your inspiration back.

Reply

Three drops per 15 gallons? Where am I expected to get that much water?

As an experienced manuals writer, I must let you know this is utter nonsense!

I will drink all of it at once; this won't hurt.

You

I'd rather not, if I were you. Experimental potion, they must've known what they were talking about in the manual…

Reply

There is no such thing as too many ideas, Hector!

DISCUSS FUNDING
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

I heard you couldn't get the funding. Sorry about that.

Reply

Sorry about what? Ruining my career?!

Don't you think they told me it was your speech that forever left me out of the engineering world?

I hate you!

DISCUSS THE EXPLOSION
Depends on earlier choices
You

What are you doing?!!

Reply

Just a failed experiment.

Such a lousy inventor can't go without making mistakes, right? Right, Hector, the Power Broker?

Consider yourself lucky it wasn't your apartment!

DISCUSS BED BUGS
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

What's up?

Reply

Bed bugs!

They're coming from the downstairs apartments! But I don't lose hope. I made a device that sucks them in!

You

A bed bug vacuum?

Reply

I call it Bugminator 3700.

You

Why 3700?

Reply

That's the amount I had to pay in fines for testing my first invention.

I made a radio amplifier to listen to it outside during the annual clean-up.

Something went wrong, and the sound wave shattered all the windows… Ah, good old times…

I got the grant! Help me decide…

I came up with several inventions, and can't choose which one to proceed with.

You

Tell me about it.

PORTABLE PHONE
Reply

This will be epic! Calling right from the car! Our officials will love it!

According to my calculations, it will weigh about 130 lbs., but I already designed a cart!

You

A cart? What's next, an engine?

Reply

You're a genius, Hector! Why didn't I think of it?

You

Huh, they'll be able to ride a telephone booth!

Reply

Are you mocking me? I'm adamant that will be a real breakthrough!

Responses

I'm sure it's a breakthrough! You will perfect your invention, and make it small enough to carry in a purse!

TELEPORT
Reply

That's amazing. Picture it: going to work straight from home in no time!

Our people will be able to work more. Or, we could teleport our troops straight into the enemy capital and take over!

You

Wait a second. What if a criminal decides to steal from my office, or from the Ministry of Economy safe?

Reply

Why would someone do that? I'm positive all of our comrades are honest people. If they don't have to waste time commuting, they'll have more of it to ponder the meaning of life.

And other important matters. Everyone will be honest!

You

Oh, Johanne, you underestimate our people. I'm afraid half of the country will teleport to another planet…

Reply

And will live their old ways there! You can't run away from a problem, unless it's a pack of rabid dogs!

You

You're right about the pack… But it does sound like something new and useful.

Reply

Really?

SHAGOHOD WALKING CANNON
Reply

This will change warfare as we know it! Imagine a giant walking machine strolling through the battlefield, shooting giant cannons!

And in days of peace, they can carry loads. That will be awesome!

You

Load carriers won't side with you here.

Reply

Those wonderful people can learn some other great trade.

You

Well… That's pretty ambitious…

Reply

You think so?

CLEAREYE OPTI DEVICE
Reply

Most of the people I know hate going to the doctor. You know how it is.

I will revolutionize healthcare! I will create a system of monitors, analyzing the health status and compiling a report with recommendations.

Equipped with: helmet, wetsuit, wires and automated typewriter. The only thing people will have to do is add paper…

You

And how long does it take?

Reply

12 to 20 hours, nothing to talk about.

Eventually, I plan to add the stress measurement and prevention module.

You

Stress prevention? What do you mean?

Reply

Automassage and sedation. They can sleep while still in the suit!

What do you say?

DISCUSS BLOOD DONATION
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

Did you see the bloodmobile by the house?

Reply

Yes, what an awful vehicle. I bet you half of the blood turns unusable before they even make it to the hospital.

I should come up with an alternative. Flying bloodmobiles with cooling… shaped like a red drop… That's awesome!

DISCUSS WAR
All of these: Depends on earlier choicesDepends on earlier choices
You

What do you think of war?

Reply

I don't think, I'm busy inventing. Doing all I can to help the country.

Just finished designing a tank with all-round cannons. They will shoot in all directions at once!

You

And hit allies?

Reply

Hm, I haven't considered that possibility…
