ASK HIM WHAT HE WANTS

Comrade Hempf? What brings you here?

A matter of urgent importance. A complaint we can't leave unattended.

The Manisheks... They're neglecting their son... What's his name?

Marcus?

Yeah, him. The police found him heading to the hospital to save some girl.

Who gave him the idea to run away?

No one...

That's unfortunate, comrade Hector. As the manager of this building, you should be aware of everything that's happening within it!

It doesn't matter now, though.

I'm here to tell his mother we're depriving her of custody and sending the boy to an orphanage.

As for you, mind your own business and get back to work.

I brought you the paper you've been asking for.

Good, Hector. You're living up to my expectations… so far.

What will happen to Klaus Schimmer now?

He won't be able to leave the city. I want him to stay in Hellmer until I figure out what to do with him.

Klaus established some ties at his workplace; I need him close by until I deal with those ties.

Sounds threatening!

What do you care? Don't you have enough of your own problems, Hector?

Comrade Hempf, are there ways to avoid the Blissful Sleep procedure?

I'm sure there are precedents.

Hector Medina, you sly fox. Do you think it's that easy to turn the wheel of fate?

What can you give to our Great State if not your life? What will you live for?

I have a son. I'd give anything to see him again.

Anything? Okay, what do you have?

I could get some money...

I could find a place at the Ministry Archive for you.

However, special conditions are placed on anyone who works there. You can never leave the building or retire - ever. So you won't be able to see your son.

Okay, Medina. The state needs financing in order to support the high living standards of its citizens.

I'll make an exception for you. Bring me $100,000, and someone else will receive the Blissful Sleep treatment in your place.

Comrade Hempf, I brought you money. Do you remember our agreement?

Yeah. Money for the lost sleep, so to say…

Give it here, Hector. I found a place for you. Hope you like paper.

A police squad will come for you in due time. Don't worry, it's a formality.

Will they beat me up?

They won't do anything you couldn't survive.

If you don't want to wait, call the Euthanasia Center. That's one of the few state offices where there's actually no line to get an appointment.

See you later, Hector.
